(Harlan) On Tuesday, the Shelby County Board of Supervisors passed moratoriums on Wind and Solar Farm permits.
According to the meeting minutes, Shelby County has no moratoriums or existing ordinances governing construction permits. The County Supervisors want to protect the County’s infrastructure, natural resources, and property rights through adequate provisions governing the siting and construction, and requiring substantial time to gather information and coordinate with multiple agencies for reviewing, updating, or creating ordinances, policies, and procedures relative to commercial wind and solar energy systems.
The moratoriums take effect immediately and for 180 days on the siting, construction, and operation of commercial wind and solar systems for drafting and adopting an ordinance regulating commercial solar and wind systems.
The moratorium passed 3-0.
