(Elk Horn) It’s the CAM Classic on Tuesday. Exira-EHK will be competing in the eleven team field.
Spartan boys track coach Kevin Brown looks forward to seeing teams with similar roster sizes. “It’s one of our favorite meets of the year. It’s one that we can actually spread our lineup through and get some points in some events we don’t normally score in. We are looking for PR’s and realistically we are going to see how close we are to qualifying for state in 3-4 events. We’re just excited to show up next week.”
Cash Emgarten in the sprints and Derrek Kommes in the jumps have been leading point scorers for Exira-EHK. “Cash Emgarten has been running extremely well. He posted 11.58 in the 100 and 23.57 in the 200.” Brown says, “Derrek Kommes has been winning a few meets at high jump and is progressing throughout the season.”
Jonas LaCanne has been another bright spot. “Jonas has been tearing it up. He’s been working really hard in the weight room. His 400 hurdle time he finally broke :60. He’s about a second off of qualifying for state realistically.”
Other teams in the field include Audubon, CAM, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Fremont-Mills, Griswold, Atlantic JV, Paton-Churdan, Iowa School for the Deaf, Stanton, and Woodbine.
