(Omaha/Valley) A strong storm system moved through portions of southwest Iowa on Friday evening. Heavy rainfall caused flash flooding two miles southeast of Council Bluffs around 8:10 p.m.
The National Weather Service reports a 68-mile-per-hour gust four miles east of Essex at around 10:15 p.m. The high winds broke power poles and snapped three-inch diameter tree limbs in Essex.
A 58-mile-per-hour wind gust was reported five miles northwest of Shenandoah and eight miles southwest of Sidney, and Emergency Management reported a 63 miles per hour wind gust two miles west of Red Oak.
