(Des Moines) Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic was awarded $849,240 for the Health Careers Registered Apprenticeship Program.
Cass Health has developed strategic workforce planning initiatives, with a focus on registered apprenticeship within the nursing career pathways program to continue growing a talent pipeline that can support our growing needs. The program includes partnerships with local high schools, community colleges, post-secondary institutions, and other medical postgraduate programs and hiring apprentices to provide them with on-the-job training experience while achieving their educational goals.
Governor Kim Reynolds announced $13.5 million in funding for apprenticeship programs to help expand health careers across Iowa. The new funding will award 21 RA programs, which are estimated to support a total of 1,463 apprentices. Awardees include hospitals, community colleges, school districts, and assisted living facilities, reflecting the strong need for support in a diverse number of health occupations.
Other southwest Iowa entities receiving funds include Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston ($258,815), Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs ($1,296,153), Burgess Health Center in Onawa ($17,347), Ringgold County Hospital in Mt Ayr ($602,273), and Woodbine Community School District ($361,400).

Recent job openings data on IowaWORKS.gov highlighted the continued need for health careers, as four out of the top six openings came from the health care sector (including Nursing Assistants, Physicians, Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurses).
