(Des Moines) The proposal requiring Iowans to pass an asset test to qualify for SNAP benefits goes to the desk of Governor Kim Reynolds. Iowa households with more than 15-thousand dollars in liquid assets will no longer be eligible. The nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency says 287-thousand Iowans received SNAP benefits last fiscal year, and more than 11-thousand Iowa households will have their benefits canceled due to discrepancies. Iowans removed from a public assistance program would have ten days from when the notice was mailed to dispute the decision.
