(Audubon) The City of Audubon is attempting to sweeten the pot for future police officers.
A tiered incentive system has been designed to attract applicants. “It’s going to be $1,500 the first year, $1,500 the second year, and then $2,000 the third year. So if they stay with us for three years it would be $5,000.”
City Clerk Joe Foran points out the department has often had a vacancy. “You see a lot of law enforcement agencies are doing that now across the country. It’s just hard to get applicants. We’ve had the fourth position open for a while. We’ve had some really good candidates, but for whatever reason some of them have not accepted it.” Foran says a resolution on the matter will be placed on the agenda for next month.
Elsewhere the FY 24 Budget was approved at a tax levy rate of $19.82 per thousand doallars of valuation. Foran says the increases are due to employee wages and insurance.
The City Council is working on a Snow Ordinance and an Ordinance for Vacant Building Registration and Inspection.
