(Anita) The CAM boys track team has gotten off to a strong start to the season. The Cougars will compete at Van Meter on Thursday.
In Class 1A, the Cougars lay claim to top 15 marks in the 400, 110 Meter High Hurdles, 400 Meter Low Hurdles, Discus, 4X400, and Shuttle Hurdle. “Coming into the year we kind of had an idea of where we could be, but after the first two meets that’s kind of solidified what we are capable of. We don’t have a huge team this year, but we’ve definitely got quality.”
That’s coach Drew Ticknor whose team on Thursday will face some of the bigger schools they’ll see all year. “Van Meter is always a competitive meet that we go to. Some of the bigger schools that we don’t always see are there. It’s good to see some different competition. With our kids being so competitive, I feel like that helps us out a lot to compete with different kids.”
CAM was the team runner-up on Monday at Nodaway Valley. “We had quite a few events that I was happy with. Long jumpers started off the meet jumping better than they had at the first meet. Really had a good night out of our hurdle events and really across the board was pleased with our times and distances. We had some PR’s in the field events. For a chilly, windy night I was very pleased.”
CAM has the fastest Shuttle Hurdle Relay in Class 1A as of Wednesday afternoon. A group of Sam Foreman, Cale Maas, Collin Bower, and Jack Follmann has run 1:02.61. Sam Foreman and Jack Follmann are 4th and 6th respectively in the 110 Meter High Hurdles with times of 15.40 and 15.55. Follmann’s 56.34 is 4th best in 1A in the 400 Meter Low Hurdles.
