(Audubon) The Audubon golfers will host Tri-Center on Thursday.
This will be the second competition of the season for the Wheelers after a home date with Treynor on Tuesday.
The Audubon girls golf team fell to the Cardinals 229-245, but had some scores to build upon. Coach Drew Christensen’s team was led by runner-up medalist Kali Irlmeier with a 47. “I was really impressed with the girls. Kali shot her best round of the year, I know it was our first meet, but we’ve had a few scored rounds. I told her that it’s the competitor in her where she shows up after a tough couple practices and turns out one of her best scores.”
Alexandra Asmus recorded a 58 and Mari Gleason shot 64. “Really stepped up. If you take two or three holes away from those girls they are shooting in the low 50’s. I was really impressed with how they shot in tough conditions.
Samantha Warnaca shot a 76. Christensen says she had some very good putts, but needs to eliminate some bad holes. Coach Christensen feels his team is progressing. “Yes. From day one to now we have gotten 200-300% better. A big part of it is simplifying the game and working on controlled, slow swings.” Christensen says, “No need to swing big and make big mistakes. Swing small and your mistakes will be small.”
Audubon and Tri-Center meet at 4:00 p.m. at Audubon Golf and Country Club.
