(Red Oak) Red Oak Firefighters responded to a house fire on Tuesday evening.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the call went out at 6:49 p.m. at 1903 200th Street. Arriving firemen reported a heavy fire coming from the north side of the residence, with the blaze extending to the first floor. Crews conducted defensive exterior ground operations before moving inside the structure to suppress the fire. Chief Bruce says the three adults and one child safely evacuated the home.
The fire originated from a fire pit approximately 10 yards to the north of the residence. Wind-driven embers ignited the vegetation along a fence line and started the northwest portion of the first floor on fire. The blaze eventually breached the first-floor windows and entered the residence. The home sustained extensive fire, smoke, and water damage.
One law enforcement officer sustained minor injuries while assisting with the hook-up to a fire hydrant. The Officer was treated and released from the hospital.
Stanton and Elliott fire departments were called in for mutual aid, along with Essex Rescue, Red Oak Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Communications, MidAmerican Utilities, and the American Red Cross.
