(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board started Wednesday’s meeting with a public hearing to consider extending the instructional support levy and the 2023-2024 school calendar. There were no comments on the public hearings for the instructional hearing or the school calendar.
Business Manager Sarah Sheeder discussed the 2023-2024 certified Budget. The proposed property tax rate for the 2024 budget is $13.00317 per one thousand dollars of valuation. The public hearing on the budget will be held on April 12, at 5:30 p.m.
The Board then approved five resignations. The district will search for a new middle school principal, a 6th-grade science teacher, and a head boys’ basketball coach. Derek Hall submitted his resignation as head boys’ basketball coach and 6th-grade science teacher; two para-educators, Misty Rhodes (bus monitor), Marcella Peck, Jenifer Ruggard, and Kindergarten teacher Mikayla Schuler, and Scot Aden, Middle School Principal, recently resigned after accepting a similar position with the Carroll School District.
The Board also approved contracts for the following teachers; Kirstin Blake, Kindergarten; Hannah Alff, second grade; and Christin Simonton, preschool. Shawn Macha, Substitute/Activity Bus Driver, and Derek Knisely, Assistant Boys’ Soccer Coach.
The Board also approved the hiring of nine Volunteer Coaches:

The Board agreed to extend the current Instructional Support Levy for another five years. The money is used for any general fund purpose. The Board also approved the 2023-2024 school calendar. The School Board also approved pay application number #3 for the High School Air Quality Project for $116,825.00.
