(Des Moines) The National Weather Service and local county emergency managers host spotter training classes across Iowa every spring.
Andrew Ansorge with the National Weather Service says there is a definite need for weather spotters.
Ansorge says in-person and virtual training sessions are free and open to the public. He says the sessions last one to one and a half hours.
Ansorge says the training is based on what a person sees and how-to call-in reports to the National Weather Service.
A spotter training class will be held on April 6 at the Event Center in Exira from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., April 12 at the Cass County Courthouse from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and the Menlo Community Building from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
