(Atlantic) Ali Pieken provided an update on the Splash Pad project to the Park Board Monday evening.
Pieken said a website is being created, they are working on brochures, they have formed partnerships with the Smackdown Golf Tournament and Produce in the Park where they will have opportunities to provide information on the Splashpad, they are working on promotional materials, and two fundraising ideas have already been presented including a possible kickball tournament.
Pieken then mentioned that she was told it was communicated by a city council member to a community member that this project was “far from fundraising” and that they weren’t aware this project is a go. Pieken asked City officials if they feel this project is not a go. City Council liaison Gerald Brink
The issue at hand was the committee partnering with SHIFT ATL to have them be a flow through for funds.
City Clerk Barb Barrick said this comes down to a legal issue on whether or not they can do that.
Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett asked why SHIFT ATL needs to be a flow through.

Parks and Recreation Director Wyatt Adderton offered to be the chairperson of the committee to relieve some of the pressure and foster communication between City Hall and the fundraising committee and help move things forward.
Meanwhile, they will have to wait on a legal answer as to whether SHIFT ATL can be a flow through for fundraising. Whether or not they can, the committee will be moving forward with fundraising for the Splash Pad.
