(Oakland) The Riverside boys golf team will have five members.
It’s a group with some potential according to coach Mitch Rice. “I think we’ll be ok. We have a couple of kids coming back. Garrett Hough and Dalton Smith played for us their freshman year. Then we have some new kids coming in with AC Roller and Mason McCready. They are guys I haven’t played with before, but I’ve seen them playing all summer long. They’ve at least got the golf bug so hopefully they are willing to put in a little work at practice and get better and we could make a push to be pretty good this year.”
The girls squad is a little deeper in numbers and has some strong talent. “We have a few coming back. Kia Meek will be our senior. Autumn Bennett and Molly Jacobs are coming back from last year and Akia Turney. We’ll end up with around 10 We have Ady Brink who was a state qualifier from last year that will lead the way for us. I feel that she’ll be competitive in every meet we are in.”
Participation is up from last year, which is always a positive. “I’m excited to have as many kids that we do. We have a really good youth program.” Rice says, “The kids like each other and we are pretty good with sharing with other sports here at our school.”
Opportunities on the course have been limited, so they’ve been going over rules and using indoor facilities.
