(Cass Co) The Cass County Committee on Aging gave a presentation to the Board of Supervisors this morning.
Judy Marnin explained how they operate.
Marnin said following the closure of the Senior Center in Atlantic, they formed a group called Atlantic JOY (Just Older Youth) and they operate in the Heritage House and are open to the public. She said now Atlantic, Cumberland, Massena, Anita and Griswold all have programs going.
Marnin said the CCCOA receives $3,723 twice in each fiscal year, or $7,446 per year. Marnin said at the end of the year, the Atlantic JOY group gave away their money to four groups that support senior citizens.
Marnin said the other towns also use money for the good of their community.
Manin noted that their activities are social events to get seniors out and they play cards, they have meals and coffees, just to name a few.
Supervisors Chairman Steve Baier said the board has always had financial support for the Cass County Committee on Aging. However, during COVID when everything was shut down and the senior citizens were not able to have their regular functions, they had built up a year’s worth of funds and they needed to draw down that account. Baier said they have drawn down that account now and since the Supervisors did not appropriate any funds last year, the board would like to resume funding in the FY-2024 budget.
