(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls’ soccer team enters 2023 with high expectations. All eleven starters return from last season’s squad, marking the most wins in program history.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says this year’s group enters preseason practice with high goals. He says they are optimistic but must work and show up every game, with the mindset of going one-and-O each time.
The offense is led by senior Jada Jensen, who now owns all the team scoring records, including a single-season best 32 goals set one year ago.
Speaking of assists, senior Aubrey Guyer also returns on the offensive side. Guyer led the squad last season with 11.
Vargason says Lindley Eblen returns, who played more of a defensive role last season, also contributed on the offensive end, finding the back of the net from 30-to-40 yards out. Senior Edria Brummer returns as goalie for the Trojans. Brummer knocked down 111 saves last season.
Also returning are all-conference middle defenders Quinn Grubbs and Eva Steffenson and outside defensive specialists Ireland Gundy, Patyn Harter, and Maddie Richter, who played everywhere last season.
Vargason says Dayna Dreager also played significantly on the defensive end for the Trojans.
Atlantic opens regular season play at Glenwood on April 3.
