(Atlantic) At Wednesday’s meeting, the Atlantic School Board approved the plans, specifications, form of contract, and the low bid for the Washington Elementary playground improvement project.
Snyder and Associates, engineers for the project, presented two bids to the board. Precision Concrete of Atlantic submitted a bid of $595,500. Caliber Concrete of Adair bid $579,442.58. Both bids came in well under the engineer’s estimate. The board-approved Caliber Concrete’s low bid. The drop time for the equipment is 12 weeks, meaning construction will start in mid-July. The goal is to finish the project before the 2023-2024 school year starts.
The Atlantic School Board passed a resolution to consider continued participation in the Instructional Support Levy and set a public hearing for March 29 at 5:30 p.m. The current ISL expires on June 30, 2024. The five-year renewal would expire on June 30, 2029. These dollars help support the classroom curriculum. The district will receive $748, 572.00 in the fiscal year 2023.
Additionally, the School Board approved the Physical Plant and Equipment levy for .33 cents. The money is used for building repairs, vehicles, and technology.
The board approved a boy’s soccer agreement with Exira/EHK and CAM. Atlantic will be the host school. (More on this with Atlantic Athletic Director Andy Mitchell on Thursday).
The Atlantic School Board approved the following Items on the Agenda:
*Designated April 3 as Paraprofessional Appreciation Day- Recognizing the many roles in making a difference in the lives of the students they serve.
*Terminated the SBO sharing agreement with Adair-Casey for the 2023-2024 school year. Throughout the school year, Mrs. Sheeder has served as the Adair-Casey school district shared SBO. Adair-Casey is looking to share this position with Guthrie Center, the school district where they share students.
*2023-2024 AEA Purchasing Agreement. This agreement allows the district to buy from different consortiums, especially in Food Service. Besides having access to these food products, the AEA complete man of the procurement requirements associated with the Federal Food Program.
*Appointed Ahlers and Cooney as the Atlantic School District Legal Counsel. Both of the districts’ attorneys, who specialize in school law, recently went from Lynch-Dallas to Ahlers and Cooney Law Firm. These two attorneys have served the Atlantic School District for many years, and it is in the best interest of Atlantic to continue working with them as they are working for a new firm.
*The Atlantic School Board approved the transfer of $19,300.00 for protective football gear from the general fund to the activity fund. This includes; $2,920 for pads/girdles, $4,443.00 for helmets, and $11,937.00 for helmet reconditioning.
*Set a public hearing for the 2023-2024 School Master Calendar for March 29 at 5:30 p.m.
