(Audubon) Laeni Christensen is the head coach for the Audubon girls track team this season. The former Atlantic and Central College athlete takes over for Tony Konkler who is now leading the Audubon boys track program.
Christensen feels good about the group she inherits. “I’ve got a really talented group of girls this year. Last year I think we only graduated two seniors so I have a lot of them back. I know they are talented, I’ve watched them the last couple of years and I’m really excited to get to coach it. Coach Tony Konkler has done a great job of building up this program the last few years and I’m excited to keep it going.”
Coach Christensen says a priority will be maximizing what the team can do at each meet based on their lineup. “I really want to focus on putting a good, cohesive meet lineup together. There’s lots of moving parts in track so sometimes I feel like that can be the most difficult.”
Stefi Beisswenger placed 12th in the 1500 and 6th in the 3000 at last year’s state meet. Madi Steckler and Mattie Nielsen returns from state medal winning relays in the distance medley, 4X400, and sprint medley.
