(Atlantic) The Atlantic High School and 9th-grade speech teams competed this past weekend at the District Individual Speech contest at Dallas Center-Grimes. Twenty of the twenty-nine individual events received a Division I rating and will compete in the State Speech contest in Ames on March 11.
“The amount of talent our team shows is astounding,” said Speech Coach Trisha Nicewanger. “We have students who have written in-depth analysis of movies and one who have blended poems and stories together to create beautiful pieces. We have students who sing and dance and ones who read news stories. It is fun to see the variety of pieces we take to contest and watch students push themselves to try new things.”
The Individual speech categories include acting, solo musical theater, storytelling, and public address. Other categories include poetry, prose, literary program, after-dinner speaking, expository address, reviewing, radio news, and spontaneous speaking.
