(Exira) The Exira-EHK School Board has approved the 2023-24 District Calendar and reached a tentative agreement with the Exira-EHK Education Association.
Superintendent Trevor Miller says school will start on August 23rd. One of the main changes is professional development early outs moving back to Wednesday instead of being on Thursday. “The reason we went from Thursday to Wednesday for next year is we’ve been working with our staff and allowing collaboration with other districts around the area.” Miller says, “So we thought that was important.”
There will be a longer break surrounding Easter next school year and the last day is set for May 22nd.
Elsewhere, a 5.45% package increase was agreed upon with the Education Association, “If you’re on your BA your base will go up $2,350 and if you’re on your masters it goes up $2,632. With the teacher shortage we are trying to get creative on how we can stay competitive with other districts in the area to make sure that we stay fully staffed and with the best people possible.”
The Board accepted resignations from part time art teacher Julie Rasmussen, science teacher and softball coach Andrew Schwery, and part time title teacher Heather Sprague.
