(Avoca) 7th ranked AHSTW takes a 20-2 record into the Class 2A District 13 Final on Tuesday night against 16-6 Van Meter. The game will air on KS95.7 FM.
Viking coach GG Harris describes his team as hungry, “The days are really long because we are excited. The butterflies in the stomach aren’t nervousness, we are just excited. Their energy is focused and they are dialed in and ready for tip-off. With this group I have a lot of confidence in them.”
AHSTW eliminated Panorama in the last round by a score of 87-57. Brayden Lund posted a school record 43 points. “Just getting to the rim. Some of it was put backs too and getting to the line. He was able to finish through contact.” Kyle Sternberg added 28 in the victory.
Van Meter needed a late comeback to escape Nodaway Valley/O-M 64-61 in the district semifinals. “They get their shooters open. We have to really contain them. “They are very athletic. They are big. They are physical. They play a really tough schedule. It’s a great matchup for a district final. They are super deep. They’ll play 8-9 guys at times. They are senior led.”
Pregame coverage starts at 6:45 with a 7:00 tip at West Central Valley (Stuart). The winner will play either DM Christian or Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for a trip to state on Saturday.
