Kayden Baxter started the day by picking up a 10-4 consolation 2nd round win against Rory Prazak II, of Central Springs. His consolation 3rd round match was a loss by fall in 4:51 against #12 Justin Wirtz, of Emmetsburg. Baxter’s season ends at 31-10. Henry Lund was in the 220 pound quarterfinals. He lost by fall to 8th rated Spencer Kessel, of Louisa-Muscatine. Lund will face (43-12) David Smith, of West Hancock, on Friday in a consolation 4th round match.
CAM
Brian South at 160 and Owen Hoover at 170 each won their consolation 2nd round consolation matches. South won his second match of the day with a pin in 1:27 over Sigourney-Keota’s Jake Moore. Hoover dropped a 5-1 decision against New London’s Michael Raines. South will take a 41-9 record into his consolation 4th round match on Friday against #5 Andrew Kimball, of Don Bosco. Hoover finishes his junior season at 41-11.
Griswold
RJ Dishong lost a consolation 2nd round match against #11 Trent Warner, of Nodaway Valley/O-M. The freshman heavyweight posted a record of 19-13 on the season and was Griswold’s first state qualifier since 2016.
Nodaway Valley/O-M
The Wolverines had both Keyin Steeve and Carmine Shaw eliminated with losses in the consolation 2nd round. Steeve at 113 lost by fall to Cason Fitch, of Colfax-Mingo. At 145 Shaw fell 6-0 to Missouri Valley’s 11th rated Riley Radke. #8 Ashton Honnold wrestled in the quarterfinals at 195. He lost a 6-3 decision against #6 Nathan Beitz, of Maquoketa Valley. Up next for Honnold is a consolation 4th round match on Friday vs #10 Kaleb Kuhlmann, of Sumner-Fredericksburg. At heavyweight it was Trent Warner winning his first match of the day by fall against Griswold’s RJ Dishong. Warner advanced to face Joseph Sanders (Pocahontas Area) and was eliminated by Sanders by fall in :44.
Riverside
7th ranked 106 pounder DJ Bramman fell via 4-0 decision to #3 Lucas Oldenkamp, of Lake Mills, in the quarterfinals. Bramman will face (36-12) Kaleb Kuhl, of Logan-Magnolia, in a consolation match on Friday. Kellen Oliver provided some theatrics with a 2-0 day on Thursday. At 120 Oliver pinned #5 Gentry Walston, of Lynnville-Sully, and then pulled off a last second 5-4 win over Lincoln Edward, of West Branch. Up next for Oliver in the consolation 4th round is #10 Hayden Helgeson, of Lake Mills. Jack Branan at 132 and Caden Forristall at 220 each got pinned in their consolation second round matches and have been eliminated.
