(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board on Wednesday authorized Snyder and Associates to accept bids for the Washington Elementary School playground project for an estimated cost of $650,000.
Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber said two years ago; the Parent-Teachers-Organization approached him with concerns about the condition of the playground equipment. The conversation started in September, and a committee was established consisting of teachers from each grade level, para-professionals, and Physical Education Teacher Casey Pelzer.
According to Steve Barbers’ calculations, 500 children use the playground for approximately one-half hour each day, which does not include the hours of use by the public.
The bids are due on March 7, presented to the board on March 8, and if acceptable, the Board of Education will award a contract.
