(Griswold) The Griswold girls basketball team will close out their regular season on Tuesday night with a matchup against Essex.
These two squads are very comparable on paper. When they met in Essex earlier this season the Trojans came away with a 50-39 win. Here’s Tiger coach Ryan Lockwood, “They are a team we matchup pretty well with. We played a pretty good back and forth game earlier in the season with them. We came up short in that game and struggled to make shots and rebound real well. It should be another good game to get us ready for that game on Thursday.”
Griswold will oppose Riverside in the first round of the regional tourney on Thursday. “We played them the first game of the season this year so we were pretty early into our new program. We are going to have to be ready for a physical game. They really get out and play defense pretty aggressively and go after steals. As long as we take care of the ball, break their press, and rebound I think we’ll be in pretty good shape.
Coach Lockwood comments on the progress his team has made throughout the year. “We’ve gotten a lot more balanced. We are not relying on one or two girls to do all the scoring or all the rebounding. We are struggling to get the ball in the basket more regularly, but we are getting good looks at the basket from every position.”
Griswold is 2-19 on the season McKenna Wiechman is averaging team bests in scoring at 8.5 points per game and rebounding at 4.7 per game.
