(Audubon) The Audubon Wheeler girls basketball team will play their final regular season game on Tuesday.
Coach Darran Miller’s group finishes up with IKM-Manning before turning their attention to the regional tournament against Coon Rapids-Bayard on Thursday. Coach Miller says his squad has made progress. “It looks good at times and sometimes it’s the old saying ‘two steps forward and one step back.’ I think as of late we’ve actually played pretty well on the defensive end. Offensively we still struggle at times.”
Taking care off the ball will be a priority against an IKM-Manning team that beat Audubon 56-24 in the previous contest. “Every game we play they’ll pressure us in some way in the full court and that was kind of our big trouble last time we played them. We’ve seen a lot of presses and that’s an area we’ve really improved on is breaking the press and getting in the half court.”
Coon Rapids-Bayard awaits on Thursday in the first round of the regional tournament. The Crusaders have notched some big wins late in the season including an upset of a ranked Woodbine team. “They’ve played well. We played them the very first game of the year and obviously they are different and we are too. Same thing for us, we are going to have to handle their pressure and offensively get ourselves in position to put the ball in the hole.”
Audrey Jensen, Sienna Albertsen, and Madison Steckler are Audubon’s top three scorers while freshman Kade Sporrer tops the team in rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.
