(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK held a 17-point first half lead and eventually put away CAM 62-51 in a boys basketball contest in Elk Horn on Friday. The Spartans had three players score in double figures.
Derrek Kommes registered 15 points, Trey Petersen 13, and Cash Emgarten scored 10. The Spartans connected on 15/20 free-throws in the 2nd half to come out on top. Chase Jahde led CAM with 16 points while Sam Foreman scored 10 and Seth Hensley had 9. Foreman did all of his scoring in the 2nd half as his minutes were limited due to foul trouble.
Exira-EHK moved the ball well and got a lot of parties involved in the early stages of the game. They led 21-8 after one quarter and built the lead as big as 25-8 before CAM made a comeback bid. Seven different Spartans scored in the first 9:00 of the game, but late in the 1st half the offense would start to slow. CAM fired back with a 7-0 stretch to get within 25-15. The Cougars hung within ten at the break at 30-20.
A 9-4 stretch for the visitors right after halftime snugged the game to five points at 34-29. Exira-EHK used a timeout and regrouped. They scored 10 of the next 12 points in the game and maintained a double digit cushion most of the rest of the game. A Hensley 3-pointer and some Jahde free-throws helped CAM crack back within single digits at 58-49, but it was too little, too late.
Aiden Flathers, Cash Emgarten, Trey Petersen, and Derrek Kommes combined to make 14/16 free-throws on the evening. Exira-EHK improves to 13-1 on the season. They have a big rematch with league leading West Harrison on Monday. CAM goes to 6-6 on the year.
