(Avoca) The AHSTW boys basketball team improved to 11-0 with Tuesday’s 74-34 win over Riverside. Next up for the Vikings is a trip to 7-2 Underwood on Friday.
The Eagles played them tough in the first encounter. AHSTW came out on top 66-55 and head coach GG Harris expects another tough test. “Just as tough or tougher. We have to go to their place and it’s always really tough to play there. They are incredibly athletic, they are well coached, and they get better as the year progresses. We know we are going to get everything from them and some more this time around. They like to mix it up defensively. We know that they can guard really well. Their offense continues to improve.”
The 8th rated Vikings got a big win on Saturday when they went to Ballard and beat the 6-2 Bombers, 76-63. “We had a real tough one the night before with Tri-Center who knows us really well and tested us in a lot of different ways. The last thing we said that night was the best thing is we get to lace them up the next day. We got to travel to Ballard and play in a great gym. It wasn’t a crazy environment on a Saturday, but a good showing by both crowds. That’s a really quality team that plays good basketball. It was just a really good basketball game for four quarters. We played really, really, really solid in the 3rd and were able to extend the lead.”
Brayden Lund had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Sternberg posted 21 point and 11 boards. “A huge credit to those guys and their body of work. Their consistent play at a high level is remarkable and I’m really proud of them.”
Coach Harris also gives a lot of credit to the supporting cast of Cole Scheffler, Nick Denning, Luke Sternberg, Abe McIntosh, and Ryan Wedemeyer. “We are really lucky to be really deep this year with those seven. They bring a lot to the table. The nice thing about it is they are continuing to work on their game to find ways to increase this team’s potential.”
Brayden Lund has 1,255 points and 527 career rebounds. Sternberg has 1,044 career points 438 rebounds, and 91 blocks.
