(Guthrie Center) Two of the premier boys basketball teams in the West Central Activities Conference will square off in Guthrie Center on Friday. KSOM will have the call as ACGC hosts Madrid.
Van Meter currently leads the WCAC standings at 7-0, DM Christian and Madrid are each 6-1, and ACGC is 5-2. Coach Lance Kading says rebounding will be a big point of emphasis. “The last couple of years it’s been real competitive. Every year they are always a good rebounding team. It seems like they always have at least one or two guys that look like they came straight off the football field and start grabbing every rebound.”
ACGC will have their hands full with Madrid sophomore Toryn Severson. He’s averaging 22.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. “It’s going to have to be a team effort. He’s 6’4″ and can handle the ball. I would imagine we’ll try Brock on him, but we’ll have to keep him out of foul trouble. Maybe we’ll try Noah on him, he’s long. He’s a great shooter, but also has great ball handling and can get where he wants to go.”
Both teams are 6-2 overall. ACGC won each meeting against the Tigers last year. The first contest was decided by just four points.
