As the new year begins, the Iowa State Patrol says they didn’t make their goal of keeping driving deaths below 300. 338 people died in 2022 in Iowa due to driving accidents. Iowa State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla says the crashes included wrong way driving, drunk driving, and distracted driving. “There’s a common theme we see among all crashes and that is speed.” He says 45 percent of people killed were not wearing a seatbelt.
