(Atlantic) Kuemper notched its’s fourth straight win of the season on Tuesday night over Atlantic, 77-62.
Dawson Gifford led all scorers with 20 points, nine points above his season’s average. D.J. Vonnahme added 11, and Michael Kasperbauer scored 10 points. The Knights knocked down seven three-point shots, pushing their total to 50 on the season.
Jayden Proehl led Atlantic with a career-high 17-points, Colton Rasmussen, 16, and Jackson McLaren pitched in 10.
The game was knotted up at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter. Colton Rasmussen led the Trojans with a three-point basket and two field goals. Freshman reserve guard Brock Badding sparked Kuemper’s offense with a three-point bucket, and Tregan Beiter connected on another. Caden Andersen’s layup at the buzzer tied the game at the end of the frame.
The difference in the game came in the second quarter. Kuemper outscored the Trojans 19-7 and led 35-23. Badding splashed down his second three-point basket, and Kasperbauer fired in a second long-range bucket.
Atlantic outscored the Knights in the third stanza 19-17. Proehl went on a roll scoring eight of his seventeen points in the third frame. Gifford kept the Trojans at arm’s length with nine points, and Vonnahme provided support with a three-ball.
The Knights outscored the home team 24-22 in the final frame to seal the win.
Kuemper, (4-1), hosts Kingsley-Pierson on Friday. Atlantic (1-4) travels to Lewis Central.
