(Council Bluffs) The Council Bluffs Police Department released information on an incident that occurred on Avenue A this morning.
Officers with the Council Bluffs Police Department, Adult Probation, and US Marshalls went to 2906 Avenue A to serve a felony warrant on a male party believed to be inside. While watching the residence, officers observed a second male known to officers enter the house with what appeared to be a long gun. The officers knew the male was prohibited from possessing firearms.
Officers secured the residence and called out the original wanted party, 20-year-old Keshawn Houtz-Mayfield, and took him into custody without incident. The male seen taking the apparent long gun into the residence refused to come out and shut the front door of the residence. He surrendered to officers without incident after eight minutes.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence and have recovered one rifle and one stolen handgun.
The investigation is currently ongoing, so the identity of the second subject is not being released at this time.
Traffic on Avenue A was restricted for approximately one and a half hours during the investigation, but has since reopened.
