(Hancock) Pottawattamie Conservation celebrated National Bison Day with Bison Fest at Botna Bend Park in Hancock Saturday.
National Bison Day, celebrated the first Saturday in November, is dedicated to the historical and cultural contribution of bison to the United States. In 2016, President Barack Obama signed a law making the American bison the national mammal of the United States.

You don’t have to travel west to see bison in person. Jon Fenner, Botna Bend Park Ranger, said bison have been in Botna Bend Park since the 1960’s. Currently, the park has around 17 bison, and two of them are white.
In addition to bison, Botna Bend Park has a herd of elk.
Bison Fest had bison and the prairie programs and presentations, demonstrations on flint knapping and bison wool spinning, atatl throwing, live music and food – including bison chili.
