(Council Bluffs) One person was injured in a motorcycle vs pickup crash in Council Bluffs Saturday afternoon.
The Council Bluffs Police Department says at approximately 4:25 p.m., an officer attempted to stop two motorcycles on Frontage Road near the 3600 block of W Broadway. When the officer initiated the cruiser’s emergency equipment, the two motorcycles drove off-road through an open field away from the officer. The officer did not pursue them and shut off his emergency equipment going back into service after losing sight of them. The last known sighting of the motorcycles by police was in the 3400 block of Ave A.
At about 4:30 p.m. a call was received for a personal injury crash involving a motorcycle and pickup truck at 26th and Ave E. Emergency crews responded. It was found one of the motorcycles that failed to stop for police was involved in the crash. The driver of that motorcycle, identified as 18-year-old Reese Schlotfeld of Council Bluffs, was taken by rescue squad to UNMC with serious injuries.
Several witnesses came forward and advised police the motorcycles were seen driving recklessly on Broadway and driving through people’s yards at high rates of speed in the neighborhoods. A report of a black SUV (not a police cruiser) was seen in the area following the motorcycles at one point.
The case is currently under investigation by the Council Bluffs Police Special Operations / Traffic Unit. At this time there is no update on Schlotfeld’s condition.
