(Avoca) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the lease renewal with the City of Avoca and Newtown-Avoca Historical Society for the Avoca Courthouse.
Rhonda Hope, with the Newtown-Avoca Courthouse Committee, said the Courthouse gets used for many things.
Hope said in recent years some Attorney’s have asked to hold some depositions in the Courtroom, students from local schools have held mock trials in the courtroom, the Sheriff’s Office Deputies have 24-7 access to an office in the courthouse, there is office space available for Veterans Affairs, the County Recorder comes out on the second Wednesday of every month to offer a passport day, and the Pottawattamie County Treasurer comes out to collect property taxes twice a year.
Hope said in the basement they offer a research room that holds some old county records.
Hope also noted that today (Wednesday) they will offer some satellite early voting at the Courthouse.
The Board approved the request for a new two-year lease at a rate of $15,000 per year.
Rhonda Hope thanked the Supervisors for all of their support throughout the years.
