(Red Oak) The Red Oak Fire Department is raising funds to purchase a Wildland Firefighting Vehicle. Fire Chief John Bruce says these vehicles are extremely important and have multiple purposes.
Chief Bruce says the new rig replaces a four-wheel drive pickup purchased from a local dealership and put a skid unit in the back of the truck. He says the department received more equipment over time and found an increased need for fire suppression and rescue.
Chief Bruce says the Wildland Firefighting Vehicle would be used to fight grass and field fires, along with the ability to respond to remote locations with rescue equipment, such as Jaws of Life, which larger vehicles cannot access. The total cost for the new vehicle is $250,000.
Additionally, the Red Oak Fire Department is hosting an open house and drive-thru breakfast on October 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pancakes and sausages are on the menu.
