(Audubon) Ash trees are coming down on Audubon School District property. Funding has been obtained to help replace the trees that are lost.
A grant from the Iowa DNR will replenish the stock, so to speak. “I think we took down 29 ash trees this year. We have another 20-something to take down next year that are dead or dieing. We were able to receive a grant to replace several of those trees through the DNR. We are going to have a tree planting event on April 30th and get some new trees planted to replace the ones that we had to take down.”
Audubon Superindent Eric Trager reported during the school board meeting this week that the trees are spread out throughout the district’s facilities. “Almost every single non-evergreen tree on the middle school/high school property is an ash tree. Like over 90% of them. Around the baseball field, around the football field, along the fence, around the softball field, we planted a lot of ash trees at one time.”
Trager says a variety of Iowa species will be planted. The school is working with Danner Lawnscapes to get the project done.
