(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning discussed the use of eminent domain for the Carbon Dioxide pipelines.
While there are no plans for any of the pipelines to go through Cass County at this time, the Supervisors said there has been some requests from ISAC wanting to know the county’s feelings on the pipeline and use of eminent domain. The pipeline companies plan to capture carbon dioxide from the ethanol plants and transfer it to locations where it will be stored deep underground. The issue at hand is these private companies want to be able to use eminent domain to secure the land for the pipeline.
The Supervisors decided to go back to ISAC and request more information on what exactly they are wanting from the County.
In other activity, the Supervisors approved a resolution approving the Title VI program between the Department of Transportation and Cass County Secondary Roads. Engineer Trent Wolken explained that this resolution basically puts in the place the Title VI program in order to receive federal aid from the Department of Transportation.
The Supervisors then approved the first reading of changes to Ordinance No. Two for the General Relief Assistance Program. There were no public comments. The second and third readings and approval of the changes will take place at the September 30th meeting.
The Supervisors also heard from County Attorney Vanessa Strazdas and County Sheriff Darby McLaren about possibly sharing an employee. This would be a new position that would split time between the two offices. The Supervisors said they would like to gather more information from HR, particularly about how this would work with the Union, before they approve the new position.
