(Harlan) On Tuesday, the Harlan Community District’s $22.1 million bond issue passed with proposition TD mustering 1003 yes votes to 660, no or 60.31-percent. The TE passed 1,104 yes to 538 no votes or 67.24-percent.
Harlan Schools Superintendent Jenny Barnett thanks Harlan and surrounding communities for bringing this project to fruition. Barnett says this is not an easy task and appreciates their support.
Barnett says the project places students in a 21st-century learning environment. For instance, all five third-grade sections would be adjacent, and opportunities for teachers to open the doors and teach two or three classrooms simultaneously.
Barnett says this bond issue will help with a safety fence around the Primary School and inclusive playground equipment for all students. The bond issue involves building a new Intermediate facility similar to the current structure. It will be modernized and add more spacing for learning. The project also includes air conditioning the gym at the Middle School and renovating the Media Center. Along with that, the high school building will get a renovated auditorium, science room, and other classroom upgrades, a more secure main entrance, and a Hall of Excellence. All of the school district buildings will get the required up-to-date maintenance.
