(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors this morning held a public hearing and first consideration of an ordinance to amend Chapter 3.52 “Animal Care and Control”. This ordinance would allow chickens in certain areas of the County.
Matt Wyant, Director of Planning and Development, said this affects property owners who have less than an acre of pasture and/or are in the R3 zoning districts for Pottawattamie County.
Wyant said the reason they point out R3 is because currently the way Pottawattamie County’s ordinances are written, you are not allowed to have agricultural animals in those R3 districts at all.
After some discussion, the Supervisors approved moving forward with the second consideration of the ordinance.
There was only one public comment during the hearing in favor of allowing chickens.
