Guy Stanley Jones was born on June 20, 1926 in Lohrville, Iowa to Guy Solomon and Nina Elizabeth Engelman Jones. He entered into eternal rest at Elm Crest Senior Living Community facility on September 9, 2022 at the age of 96.
At age 4, he moved with his parents and brother, Don, to Audubon, Iowa where his father had a veterinarian practice. He was baptized and confirmed into the Methodist faith and was a lifetime member of the Methodist church in Audubon, Iowa and Harlan, Iowa.
Stan graduated from Audubon High School in 1945 and attended Iowa State University and American Institute of Business.
Over the years, he was employed by Curtis Candy, Farm Service, Paul Revere and New York Life Insurance Companies, Triple A Association and Harlan’s Deputy City Clerk. From November, 1964, until he retired in April, 1987, he was a field representative with National Old Line Insurance Co. of Little Rock, AK. He called on Iowa Savings and Loan offices with mortgage life and disability insurance for their consumers. He received the company’s Distinguished Service Service Award for 5 years and their “Man of The Year” award in 1976.
On June 20, 1947, he married Gertrude Mae Coglon of Exira, Iowa at the Exira Christian Church. Three children were born to this union. Donita Rae, Brian Rans, and Bruce Arden. They lived a short time in rural Exira and they moved to Audubon, Iowa. In March, 1961 he moved his Jones family to Harlan, Iowa to their home ar 1112 Broadway until his admission to Elm Crest Senior Living in 2016.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Nina Jones; his sons, Brian and Bruce Jones; his brother and wife, Donald and Jean Jones; his parents in laws, Ray and Lena Coglon; his daughter in law, Karen Jones and nephew Steve Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude of 75 years of Harlan, Iowa; daughter Donita (David) Miller of Harlan, IA; granddaughter Dr. Cresta Jones of Richmond, Virginia, grandson Nathaniel Guy (Janet) Jones of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Stella, Josephina, Bridget and Audrey Crump of Richmond, Virginia. Sydney, Kira and Brian Jones of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother-in-law, Raymond Coglon of Exira, Iowa; nephew, Tom (Sharon) Jones of LaQuinta, CA; niece, Nancy Jones of Wickenburg, AZ; other family members and special friends.
Funeral Services will be Friday, September 30th at 11AM at the Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 9AM. Burial will be at the Harlan Cemetery. The Pauley Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
