(Griswold) Griswold’s Week 4 football matchup pairs them up against Stanton/Essex. The Tigers are 0-3 and the Vikings are 2-1.
Griswold coach Chase Wallace expresses concern over the passing attack of Stanton/Essex. “They switch quarterbacks between Nolan Grebin and Joshua Martin and both guys can throw the ball well and they can also take off and run.” Wallace says, “They really make plays happen back there. We really struggled with pass coverage last week.”
Wallace adds the Vikings have a very aggressive defense capable of forcing a lot of turnovers. He admits the first half of games continue to be a struggle for his team. “Last week against East Mills, especially in the 2nd quarter I think we gave up 39 points in the 2nd quarter alone. We played pretty well in the 1st quarter. I thought the guys were pretty aggressive defensively. Unfortunately we have a couple of bad plays and it’s kind of like quick sand where we can’t ever make up the ground after those bad plays happen. That’s stuff we have to work on. Just bouncing back after a mistake happens and getting back on the right track.”
Last week in a 65-14 loss to East Mills, Griswold held the Wolverines to 53 rushing yards. Zane Johnson led the Tiger offense. “Zane Johnson has really run the ball hard for us this year. When you think there’s nothing he’s been able to find a hole and run through it. On the defensive side of the ball I thought the line really played well last week. They did a good job of slowing down that fast East Mills running game. If we could just put together a little better pass defense behind that I think we’ll be in good shape.”
One area that Griswold will have an advantage in on Friday night is size. They’ll look to capitalize on that. The Vikings have won five straight in the series with Griswold and are averaging 74.8 points per game in that span.
