(Iowa City) ISU coach Matt Campbell has his first victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Cyclones prevailed in the in-state matchup 10-7 for their first win in the series since 2014.
Jirehl Brock and Xavier Hutchinson led the group from Ames to the winner’s circle. Brock carried 27 times for 100 yards. Hutchinson had 11 catches for 98 yards including the go-head TD grab with 8:27 left in the 4th quarter.
Iowa’s offense managed only 150 yards. Leshon Williams put the Hawks in front with his nine yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He rushed for 34 yards on 14 attempts. Spencer Petras was 12/26 for 92 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
Former OABCIG star Cooper DeJean led Iowa in tackles with 11. He also had an interception.
Iowa missed a 48 yard field goal attempt in the rain as time expired. The 1-1 Hawks host Nevada next week. 2-0 ISU will be at home against Ohio.
