(Des Moines, IA) — A sentencing hearing for 17-year-old Pieper Lewis has been postponed till September 13th. She pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and willful injury in the 2020 stabbing death of 37-year-old Zachary Brooks. Lewis was 15 years old at the time — she says she’s a victim of sex trafficking and that Brooks had repeatedly raped her before she stabbed him to death. Her attorneys are pushing for Lewis to serve no jail time and say she’s not a threat to the community. She’s facing 20 years in prison.
