(Atlantic) A motorcycle driver suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Cass County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 6:00 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the 59.6-mile marker. Authorities identified the injured motorist as 26-year-old Carolos Alberto Espinosa Herrera.
The State Police report indicates Herrera riding an eastbound 2012 Honda CBR250, left the eastbound shoulder, attempted to merge onto the roadway, and was rear-ended by a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Shayne C. Songer of La Vista, Nebraska. The impact forced the motorcycle to enter the inside lane striking a 1993 Mac semi driven by 52-year-old James Noyes of Craig, Nebraska. Herrera was thrown from the bike and ended up on the shoulder; the motorcycle came to rest in the ditch.
Life Flight Helicopter transported Carolos Alberto Espinosa Herrera to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
