(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK has had a change in their cross country coaching staff.
Coaches Terry Weisenborn and Kevin Brown will switch hats on the staff this year. Brown explains, “The past few years coach Terry Weisenborn and I have been co-coaching and we both feel like it was kind of time to switch roles. He’s going to be assisting me this year and I’m going to be the head. We work well together and I think in the next couple of years we can really get this team going.”
Brown has also served as the head boys track coach the past couple of seasons. He’s looking to put more of an emphasis on the offseason. “Basically the biggest improvement would just be our summer mileage and winter mileage. What we do in season is going to remain pretty much the same. Just trying to recruit more kids to come out. Right now we have five solid boys and five girls, so I’m just excited to get a full team on both sides.”
Brown says they’ve had a pretty solid turnout for their summer running club. “Two days a week they come out and they run in the mornings. We have a pretty consistent crew that comes out. We do easy runs 20-30 minutes in town. It’s pretty laid back.” Browns says, “These kids are going to be pretty good shape.”
Intensity, speed, and staying healthy are all things coach Brown says will be key when official practice is allowed to start next week.
