(Warensburg, MO) Times keep coming down for CAM alum Connor McKee. The Central Missouri hurdler turned in a solid freshman season for the Mules.
Among the positives for McKee in his first season competing for the Division II school was running a 54.17 in the 400M Hurdles. “I thought things went pretty well overall. I had an all-time PR in the 400 hurdles with a 54.17 in the second meet of the year for outdoor season.” McKee placed 9th in the conference meet. “All around it was a pretty great season.”
Finishing under :55 was one of his goals for the year and he did than in each of his first two competitions. McKee embraced the grind of a college schedule that is much longer than a high school track season. “The season feels really, really long at times especially since we start practicing in September and then the season doesn’t get over until May. There’s only like 10 meets total.” McKee says, “It gets a little hectic at times, but once you embrace the grind and if you really love track it’s a pretty great environment.”
He’d like to run :53.5 or better next season and has been making progress towards that. In the 110M High Hurdles he’s striving to get under :15 and his best time so far is :15.5. “I have event specific coaches so that really helps. I’ve learned even better mechanics. Him mobility has really helped and doing the little things. They go a long way.”
McKee also competed in the 4X400 and ran a 400 meter leg on the distance medley relay. He’s looking to break :50 for his split on those next year.
