Norma Anna (Sorensen) Glissmann was born on September 14, 1928, to Elmer and Adelia Hansen and passed on July 1, 2022. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa.
Norma married Earl Sorensen on February 21, 1947, and to this union 3 children were born: Rita, Kay and Lee. They were happily married until Earl passed in 1983. She married Orval Pierce in 1985 until he passed in 2000 and later married Leroy Glissmann who passed in 2011.
Norma loved and lived life to the fullest. She spent a few years as a Housemother for Delta Tau Delta at Iowa State University. She absolutely loved this ‘job’ and emotionally adopted all of the young men she watched over. Many of whom have kept in touch with her over the years.
Norma loved the small Avoca Community and was a big part in developing the Avoca Historical Society into what it is today. She was also involved in keeping the Court House in Avoca. She was instrumental in developing the Memorial Garden on North Willow Street and took great joy and pride as to how it grew over the years.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband’s Earl, Orval and Leroy; daughter Rita Zientek; grandson Benjamin Sorensen; brother Richard Hansen; sister Donna Dargan; niece Debra Larsen.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Lee Sorensen (fiancé Sandi McDonald) of Shelby, Iowa; daughter Kay Bergonzi of Loveland, Colorado; son-in-law Jim Zientek of Colanda, Illinois; all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Alice Hansen of Cheyenne Wyoming; other family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Hall in Avoca, Iowa.
