(Kimballton) KSOM will have the call of Exira-EHK’s regional final matchup at SE Warren Monday night. The 13th ranked Spartans are 22-3. The 6th rated Warhawks are 22-4.
Pregame coverage comes on the air at around 6:45 with a 7:00 first pitch. Neither team has had much trouble getting to this point. Exira-EHK has defeated Sidney and Fremont-Mills each by scores of 11-1. SE Warren ousted Orient-Macksburg 12-0 and Griswold 12-2.
Exira-EHK’s only losses in the regular season were to Lewis Central, Class 4A #9 Creston, and Class 1A #2 Newell-Fonda. All of SE Warren’s losses have all been to top ten ranked opponents including Indianola, ADM, Martensdale-St. Marys, and Wayne.
Simpson commit Macy Emgarten leads the Spartans with a 0.98 ERA and 185 strikeouts. Emgarten has allowed just 13 walks in 114 2/3 innings pitched and opponents are hitting .130 against her. She’ll be facing a power hitting lineup. SE Warren’s 31 home runs are 2nd most in Class 1A. Seven different Warhawks have gone deep and the team is hitting .398.
Last year SE Warren beat Martensdale-St. Marys 4-1 in a regional final and went on to place 3rd in Fort Dodge. Exira-EHK was in a regional final last year, but fell short to eventual state champion Newell-Fonda by a score of 1-0. They also lost to the Mustangs in a 2020 regional final.
