(Anita) #8 CAM is one win away from their 5th substate final appearance since 2017. Standing in the way of the 25-2 Cougars is 16-6 Lamoni.
This is the Class 1A District 14 Championship. We’ll have the game on KSOM with a 7:00 first pitch from Anita. CAM rides a ten game win streak into the contest. Coach Dan Daugherty breaks down the Demons. “They are solid at the top of the lineup. They have a lot of speed.”
Coach Daugherty admits his team can’t expect to fall behind and come back every time like they did in their 7-4 win over Lenox this week. Lamoni took out the #2 seed in the district with their 13-7 win over Mount Ayr. A couple of the top available arms for the Demons are Landon McKillip who is 2-2 with a 3.03 ERA and Brayden Olson who is 5-2 with a 2.80 ERA. “I would expect to see McKillip.” Daugherty says, “The Olson kid I think is a hard thrower. He has a lot of innings for them. Whoever it is we have to be able to put the bat on the ball.”
CAM has Joe Kauffman and Cade Ticknor available on the hill. Kauffman has 59 strikeouts and is 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA. Ticknor has 54 strikeouts and is 5-1 with a 1.87 ERA. Lane Spieker leads CAM with a .536 batting average, 13 home runs, and 39 RBI. Colby Rich is hitting .424 with six homers and 37 RBI.
