(Audubon) A bid of $95,000 for East Division Street North in Audubon has been approved by the County Board of Supervisors.
The road will get new asphalt soon. Supervisor’s Chairman Doug Sorensen says, “We were under the understanding that a portion of that was under city jurisdiction and so there would be some city payback on that. However in checking it looks like it is going to be mostly county, but it needs done. We had someone bid on it that could start on it almost immediately. It needs done kind of bad, so we decided to go ahead and take that bid.”
Elsewhere, Sorensen says some changes were made to the LE 20 bridge on F32 east of Audubon. “When they were pouring some of the concrete, some of the cement trucks just basically sank into the mud. There must be a seep under the road. What they decided to do was dig that out, back fill it with some large rock, and they have a series of layers they care going to put in there. They’ll shore it up and then pour the concrete approaches over the top of that.”
Sorensen says this added about $33,000 to the cost of the project. “Apparently this something that has happened before because they noticed when they cut into the asphalt they noticed it was over a foot thick. So apparently they previously had just bridged over the top of it with a lot of asphalt. So this was known prior, but some time before our current County Engineer. Anyway, we are going to get it fixed right this time.”
