(Griswold) Griswold hosts Tri-Center on Wednesday in a Class 1A Regional Softball matchup.
The Tigers are 19-5 and had a first round bye last week. The Trojans are 7-14 after an 11-1 decision over St. Albert in their postseason opener. Griswold coach Jody Rossell comments on some of the things that stuck out about her squad’s play this year. “I would say our consistency and discipline throughout the season regardless of the opponent or the situation.”
Griswold will be facing an offense that averaged 4.85 runs per game until the postseason when they erupted for a nine run 4th inning to oust St. Albert. The Trojans had lost 11/12 at one point before starting a three game win streak. “We haven’t seen them yet this year. We watched them play on Friday night and saw they hit the ball well.”
Karly Millikan and Brenna Rossell have led Griswold at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle. Millikan is hitting .431 with nine doubles, one home run, and 23 RBI. Rossell has a .421 average, nine doubles, and 24 runs driven in. Millikan’s pitching record is 11-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 81 innings pitched. Rossell has struck out 80 batters in 52 2/3 innings with an 8-3 record and 1.73 ERA. “They are both very good pitchers that any team would be trilled to have one of them. Having both of them and having them be so team minded and versatile ball players is such an asset for us.”
The winner advances to face either #6 SE Warren or Orient-Macksburg in a regional semifinal on Friday.
